stephanie + guy :: real wedding at sea grove park / private residence

Not all weddings have to be large in scale.  Some have a few guests; some take place in a hotel; and others utilize mere creative locations and details.  The wedding of Stephanie and Guy describes the latter.  With the ceremony at Sea Grove Park in beautiful Del Mar, the couple may have kept the guest list small, but the details and the decor definitely made a large statement.

Specialty wedding rental vendor, Concepts Event Design, provided the couple with all the chairs, tables and more that they needed in order to create this pop-up wedding location.  After the ceremony, Concepts decorated the unique reception location, which happened to be at a friend’s private residence in La Jolla.  

Market string, lantern lighting, along with vibrant, bright colors, graced the home’s outdoor area, and tables and lines turned the space into a romantic and private wedding reception.

Weddings are unique and are a reflection of the couple, their style and tastes, and their upbringing.  For Adam and Sara, their Indian wedding was the perfect combination of tradition and fun!  This particular celebration was the couple’s 2nd one, as the week prior the bride’s side of family enjoyed their own party.

Coordinated by Cristina Gold, Adam and Sara’s special day took place at the Marriott La Jolla. Weddings of Distinction members, Concepts Event Design and Republic of Music, provided the uplighting/market lights and the entertainment, respectively.   Republic of Music is one of San Diego’s premier live music and DJ entertainment, and this wedding was no exception…they provided a 15 piece dance band, Cocktail Duo (piano/vocalist), Professional DJ, 2 DHOL players (indian drummers), projector screens, as well as stage trussing!  Then, to top it all off, patterned gobos were spread out throughout the reception room and dance floor!

The wedding was extremely high energy, and entertainment centered around numerous Indian performances by friends and family. There were times, though, when the groom, himself, surprised the bride with not only a choreographed dance, but with his own musical debut on drums!  The groom wanted this night to feel like a concert, and with all the details, the band, the staging and lighting and more, its safe to say, he got what he wished for!

member spotlight :: cynthia zatkin events

cynthia zatkinsCynthia is a native of La Jolla, a graduate of La Jolla High, and an alumna of UCLA. She began event planning through non-profit work in her early 20’s, planning conferences and both national and international philanthropic projects. In her late 20’s, she took a position at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla as Catering Manager and continued to develop her event planning expertise. Then in March 2005, Cynthia launched CZ Events. Because of her hotel experience, Cynthia sees each event as one that involves a community of creative people. She excels in bringing together the expertise of various vendors to create an event that together showcases their individual talent in a triumphant whole.

“Why weddings? People ask me this a lot. Simply, I love weddings! I love being part of a family’s most memorable occasion. It is wonderful to plan and create and then step back and watch the joy on the faces of those gathered. Celebrations are one of the most basic parts of humanity. We have celebrated rites of passage since civilization began. I feel connected to what is most important in life when I create the wonderful occasions that are part of each family’s story.
