real weddings :: dagna + kyle

Let’s start with a little background from Dagna, about how she and Kyle met:

“Kyle and I “met” when I was about 18.  I don’t recall who struck up the initial conversation, but we immediately clicked. We both belonged to a College Aged Republicans group on MySpace (go ahead and make your jokes, but without MySpace we wouldn’t have met!)  From the get go, I found him incredibly funny and intelligent. We shared the same views and passions, and let’s be honest the extremely handsome part didn’t hurt!  We would spend hours online and on the phone discussing politics and our lives. He always made me laugh! From the very beginning I knew I would be with him one day…”

Dagna + Kyle are a great couple; they’re truly down to earth, easy going, and open to creativity.  As a couple, they love to think out of the box, and their wedding reflected their unique personality. The Prado at Balboa Park provided the perfect backdrop for this couple, and with the help of Ann (of Ann’s Plans), their special day was perfectly coordinated; Lois Mathews Designs created the beautiful floral designs and accents; Artistic Productions provided the musical/DJ entertainment, and Studio Carre’ Photographie captured the memories.

news + press :: september luncheon at AFR Furniture Rental

September has come and gone, and Weddings of Distinction members congregated at AFR Furniture Rental for the monthly meeting.  What is normally a drab warehouse was turned into a chic dining space, complete with decorative furnishings and chairs (special thanks to David Wright and Kristen Spooner for the hospitality)!  San Diego Paella cooked up some delicious lunch, and Joes on the Nose brewed some refreshing teas that held off the September heat.

The meeting was pretty casual, but all relevant and important business was attended to and all new members were introduced to the group.  Friendly conversation ended the afternoon.  All in all, it was a great, yet hot, afternoon!

real weddings :: Katy+ Dan

 The Prado Balboa Park is truly San Diego’s guiltiest pleasure for wedding venues. The beautiful history which enriches the architecture of the museums and the botanical gardens, is a wonderful backdrop for any wedding. The famous San Diego Park, is enriched with art and culture; it offers seventeen museums and multiple gardens that not only attract tourists from all over the world, but it has become a hot spot during wedding season.

 Katy and Dan expressed their warm love for each other in the late summer, and used Balboa Park to their advantage. Shades of purple and splashes of yellow, were the color scheme for this romantic wedding; having it all tie in with the Prado’s blue doors and wood floors, all photographed beautifully by Betwixt Studio and coordinated by CZ Events

Showered with candles, packed with vintage suitcases and the brass covered decor all contributed to the romantic setting. A sweet detail that the bride added was the remembrance of her little flower girls; giving them each a little suitcase of their own, beholding crayons, stickers, and other treats. This sweet idea is always fun for the invited children to keep them entertained meanwhile the adults are at play.

“To get the full value of joy, you must have someone to divide it with.”
Mark Twain

This quote truly fit in with the theme for Katy and Dan’s celebration. Before tying the knot, the love birds traveled around the world; everywhere from the evergreen Seattle, WA to the buzz worthy streets of Hong Kong in China. Traveling with your loved one is sincerely practiced in this couple’s hearts. If you notice how adorable their cake-topper is; the bride stands on vintage suitcases as she smooches her other half.

The Prado at Balboa Park was our location for April’s all-industry networking event…and it was a hit! This month we opened the doors to everyone to have lunch and all around great networking. Live entertainment was provided by arguably one of the more versatile and talented bands on the West Coast ~ Sensation Show Band with their array of music from 80’s pop, jazz, rock, and disco…which kept the crowd lively and chatty. This was our first open door meet & greet and we were excited about the turn out and hope to do it again! Kudos to all of the members who worked hard to put this huge event together. Thank you to all of the fabulous area industry peeps for turning out.

real weddings :: paul and angie

theorie photographyimages courtesy of theorie

Angie and Paul were married in San Diego at the Prado at Balboa Park. The couple hired Theorie photographers Amy and Maurice Wright to provide professional photography for their wedding. The ceremony was held at the Prado’s picturesque outdoor garden terrace, the perfect venue for their summer wedding. The reception was held in the Loggia Room, one of the Prado’s more intimate banquet rooms, which features an adjacent outdoor patio where guests enjoyed the cocktail hour. Though the couple lives in San Diego, it was a destination wedding for many of the friends and family, who traveled to San Diego from as far away as Hawaii, Florida, Ohio and North Carolina. Something fun that Angie and Paul do for each other for birthday presents is to give each other an activity they can do together, like whale watching … or first dance lessons! And as Paul would leave soon after the wedding for an overseas deployment with the California Army National Guard, learning to dance together was some extra special time they could spend together.
Paul left for deployment soon after the wedding. As Angie wrote in a note to Amy and Maurice upon viewing the wedding photographs together for the first time, “It meant a lot that we got to look at our pictures together before he left.” The photography beautifully captured their celebration, including all of the special and memorable moments, flowers and other wedding decorations, plus the essential portrait photography to complete the photos.
