real wedding:: david + julia

San Diego boasts some of the finest wedding venues out there, but for certain couples, the intimacy of a private residence, for example, is more appropriate than a hotel for their “I Dos.”

The wedding of David and Julia was just that, an intimate affair on a private residence in beautiful La Jolla, CA.  The wedding was simple, yet screamed elegant.  The lighting, provided by WoD vendor, San Diego Events Lighting Co., was romantic, yet simple.  The accents of market string lighting lit their outdoor reception area perfectly.  The food was catered by one of San Diego’a best wedding caterers, Crown Point Catering, another WoD vendor, offered top-of-the-line wedding food and hors d’oeuvres.

In addition, three other Weddings of Distinction vendors took part in the nuptials: wedding music provided by DJ Daniel Peterson, wedding coordination by Ann’s Plans (wedding planning), and photography by Studio Carre Photographie.

real wedding :: paulina & adrian

You don’t hear about it often anymore, but for some, they meet “the one” early on in life.  That is exactly how it was for Paulina and Adrian.  They met in high school, when they both were in the same biology class.  Fast forward 8 years, and the two were married in a classy, elegant wedding at the beautiful Marin Village Conference Center.  Nestled right on the San Diego bay, the wedding featured amazing views of the water, custom cocktails and custom lighting in the shade of the wedding colors, purple and white!  Paulina and Adrian’s wedding was elegant, yet remained traditional. It matched couple’s style perfectly!  With all the special attention to detail, and a DJ that played tunes well into the night, the couple and their guests enjoyed quite a party!San Diego Wedding Photographers_015

real wedding:: teresa + benny

Romance, romance, romance!  That is what the wedding of Teresa and Benny was all about! Uplighting, flowers, tablescapes, and a custom monogram…all featured in pinks and blush tones that would make the most resistant person a romantic!

Their wedding paid respect to both their backgrounds, Italian, and like many traditional Italian weddings, the wedding of Teresa and Benny was big, blingy, and a ton of fun!

The reception was at the luxurious Marriott Coronado, so the couple and their guests had epic views of the San Diego city-line.  And inside the venue, opulence that fit the couple’s style perfectly!  Truly, all the details of this Italian wedding were perfect.  With the help of two Weddings of Distinction members, wedding decor rentals from Concepts Event Design and wedding photography by Studio Carre Photographie, this wedding was so beautiful and elegant that Ceremony Magazine featured it on their blog!

real wedding :: grace + alex

 Sometimes you just never know when you’ll meet that special someone, and for Grace and Alex, the stars aligned, and through mutual friends, their paths crossed.  At the time, Alex was only in San Diego for a summer internship, and Grace was a local resident.  They spent time together with friends, shared in some fun, and by the end of the summer, the two enjoyed their first date alone.  The connection was strong, and even though it was now the end of the summer and Alex was returning to school in FL, the couple stayed in touch and maintained a bi-coastal relationship!

Fast forward a year, and the two were finally on the same coast!  Their courtship spanned a couple of years after that, and in the city where they first met, they married under the stars at Mt Woodson Castle.  The night was perfect.  Thanks to the musical talents of wedding DJ, Andy Hagenah of The Groove Wedding DJ, the couple, with their family and friends, enjoyed a night of dancing and photo booth fun.  Studio Carre’ Photographie captured the memories, and there were plenty made!  The wedding lasted well into the night!

Grace and Alex’s wedding was a grand affair, and to make such a night possible, only the best wedding vendors were used!  The bride looked her best thanks to wedding hair and makeup by Meleah Hair & Makeup; the location was classic California; the music was bumping all night; and the photos will last a lifetime!

Paula + Mike :: real wedding at the Barracks in Liberty Station

Reunited and it feels so good….well that is what Paula + Mike McCloskey think!  This special couple has a somewhat unique story.  They actually worked together for nearly 8 years!  Paula was hired to work for Mike at the now closed law firm, Baker & McKenzie.  After 8 years of loyal service, though, Paula left to raise her daughter, and it wasn’t until years after that that the two reconnected at Paula’s Christmas party!  They knew that if they connected after all that time and a wealth of life experience, then best not to mess with fate! 🙂

They were married in the old Navy barracks in the Liberty Station area of San Diego, Barracks 17 of the NTC Promenade, to be exact.  The venue was the perfect backdrop for this established couple.  The wedding colors consisted of greens and a rich purples/fuchsia, and even the bride, choosing to be more non-traditional, wore a pale green dress by Custom Made Design!   Her hair and makeup were done by Beauty Carriage.  She truly looked stunning!

Wedding coordinator and florist, Carmin Design, created the perfect ambiance.  The details were simple, yet amazingly elegant and colorful.  Catering was provided by Wild Thyme, and the dessert table, supplied by our beloved, Sweet Cheeks Baking Co., consisted of not just a wedding cake (and a football-shaped groom’s cake), but also cupcakes, bars, and bites, giving the 100+ guests plenty of delicious options!

Wedding photographer, Studio Carre’, captured some great images of Paula + Mike’s special day, and even with a quick glance at the images below, you’ll feel as warm and happy about this special couple as we do just to write about it!

:: what’s your bridal style?

Are you bold, or are you simple?  Modern or vintage?  Bridal style is as unique as we are as individuals.  Recently, a few of our   Weddings of Distinction vendors collaborated on a styled shoot to capture some of today’s most popular bridal looks: natural, whimsical, romantic, modern, glamorous, and vintage.

What took a lot of preparation and loads of talent, Shannon Henry of Studio Carre´ photographed these stunning looks.  They were so stunning, in fact, that San Diego-based magazine, FINE Magazine, featured the shoot in April 2013’s issue!

With the help of hair and makeup stylist, Brandi McMillan, of Beauti-on-the-Go; stylist, Sandra Buczek, of Sandra Nicole Designs; flowers by Isari Floral + Design Studio, and bridal couture from Elyse Reuben Couture, Studio Carre´got some amazing images that really showcased these distinct bridal styles.

Which one best fits you?

Lynley and Mitch - Studio Carre' Photographie

Lynley and Mitch’s outdoor wedding took place at the waterfront Ocean View Villas. Because their families are so close, they wanted a more inclusive, relaxed, and fun atmosphere and Carmin with Carmin Design was the perfect coordinator to make this all happen! Carmin also used her talents and created some beautiful tropical floral arrangements, along with colorful bouquets, and adornments for the tables. Amazing food was served up by the grooms cousin from San Diego’s local Tractor Room along with delicious kebobs by Ohana Catering…and to finish it off whoopie pies and cake from Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.

news :: september’s meeting at loews coronado resort

Loews Coronado

Members enjoyed a delightful meeting at the Loew’s Coronado Bay Resort.  Our President, Ann Strobel, was busy coordinating a wedding in Northern California so our very capable Krista Murphy, acted as our Hostess/Emcee.

Krista introduced our guests: Jen Ragusa, Pink Star Design, Betty representing Concepts and Brent, the other half of Studio Carre’ Photographie.

Our showcasers were Shannon and Brent of Studio Carre’ Photographie.  Shannon explained the importance of building a relationship with their clients, customized packages, creative shooting, whether it be an intimate beach or large wedding.  They keep current with the trends and styles.  Not only do they shoot weddings, but also corporate business to boudoir photography.  They are talented and easy to work with and we are so proud to have Studio Carre’ in Weddings of Distinction.

We did a trivia test on Coronado and drew names of our drawing winners, Carmin (for 2 bottles of wine) and Andrea who won gift certificates to Vigiluccis and Truluck’s La Jolla.  Paula of Rae Florae provided beautiful florals and Lisa from Elle G captured our event through her talented lens.

The Loews Coronado is a beautiful resort, it’s pet friendly, has three ceremony sites, beautiful ballrooms and gondelas for a relaxing, romantic getaway around the bay. “Gordie” offered a tour of the property at the end of the meeting.

Next month, our hostess will be Carlie McVay from the Hilton Del Mar.  We are planning a fabulous open vendor panel to discuss educating vendors to educate clients, being a team player and ways to overcome obstacles in selling.  The focus will be on solutions and everyone will walk away with new knowledge and skills to improve their business!
