real wedding :: adam + sara

Weddings are unique and are a reflection of the couple, their style and tastes, and their upbringing.  For Adam and Sara, their Indian wedding was the perfect combination of tradition and fun!  This particular celebration was the couple’s 2nd one, as the week prior the bride’s side of family enjoyed their own party.

Coordinated by Cristina Gold, Adam and Sara’s special day took place at the Marriott La Jolla. Weddings of Distinction members, Concepts Event Design and Republic of Music, provided the uplighting/market lights and the entertainment, respectively.   Republic of Music is one of San Diego’s premier live music and DJ entertainment, and this wedding was no exception…they provided a 15 piece dance band, Cocktail Duo (piano/vocalist), Professional DJ, 2 DHOL players (indian drummers), projector screens, as well as stage trussing!  Then, to top it all off, patterned gobos were spread out throughout the reception room and dance floor!

The wedding was extremely high energy, and entertainment centered around numerous Indian performances by friends and family. There were times, though, when the groom, himself, surprised the bride with not only a choreographed dance, but with his own musical debut on drums!  The groom wanted this night to feel like a concert, and with all the details, the band, the staging and lighting and more, its safe to say, he got what he wished for!

news + press :: the US Grant Hotel for June’s monthly meeting

It may be considered “June Gloom”outside in San Diego, but inside the US Grant Hotel, it was quite a different feeling.  It was the first time the group has been to the US Grant Hotel in quite some time, so our hosts from the US Grant, Kanani Ching & Mark Higginbotham, outdid themselves and placed the group in one of the most beautiful and historic rooms in the hotel, the Crystal Ballroom!

As usual, we handled all business, and then the group was given a special treat: instead of two speakers this month, we had one topic for the presentation…. social media, specifically an exploration into Instagram.   Shannon Henry, of Studio Carre Photographie, and Janine Abdallah spoke to the group about this extremely useful social media application and how various wedding vendors can use this tool for their business and work!

We dined on some delicious seasonal food, learned a thing or five about social media, and of course, networked with one another post-meeting.   Next month we head to the Sheraton on Harbor Island!  Stay tuned!

news + press :: august meeting at the glass door

Amazing views and a gourmet lunch: we got a little spoiled at last month’s networking luncheon at the Glass Door.  Located in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood, the Glass Door restaurant is located in the lovely Porto Vista Hotel.  Boasting amazing views of the San Diego Bay/Marina, the Glass Door restaurant is super posh and sophisticated (perfect for a rehearsal dinner), so naturally, we wanted to take a Weddings of Distinction luncheon to the space.

Weddings of Distinction Meeting

This month was a little bit different.  Usually we have respected guests visit our simple networking lunch, and one or two will give a short presentation about their business.  This month, though, we kept our presentations internal, meaning August was all about social media marketing.  Thanks to Shannon Henry of Studio Carre’ Photographie and Janine Abdallah, her trusted colleague, those in attendance we schooled on social media 101!

Combining education with networking: a great combination for business success.
