artist love :: color + vibrancy for your wedding

Deciding on a color palette for your wedding?  What if you used them all!?

Recently, many of our fabulous San Diego wedding vendors (and Weddings of Distinction members) collaborated for a styled shoot + tablescape design shoot that combined lots of vivid colors.

The shoot, called “Artist Love”, was envisioned by the talented wedding coordinator, Ann Strobel, of  Ann’s Plans, and with the help of Hartworks Floral Design (floral arrangements), Sweet Cheeks Baking Company (delicious cupcakes), Pink Star Design (artsy stationary), Sandra Nicole Designs (bridal styling), D’Angelo Couture (wedding dresses), Concept Event Design (decor + linens), Meleah (hair and makeup), +  Kristina Chartier Photography (photography), the vision turned into a colorful reality!

Set at The Bohannan Estate, this entire shoot evoked everyone’s artistic side.  It was playful; it was colorful; any wedding would be fortunate to have such a unique design concept!

news + press :: may’s meeting at lomas santa fe country club

We traveled up to North County for May’s Weddings of Distinction luncheon, and Lomas Santa Fe Country Club was gracious enough to host our meeting.

The space was beautifully decorated, thanks to Lois Mathews Design for the floral arrangements, and guests were able to mix and mingle while enjoying coffee and tea.

During the delicious meal of steak salad, and an amazing chocolate ravioli dessert, we heard from some of our newest members, Manchester Grand Hyatt, Diane D’Angelo, and La Jolla Cove Suites.  We also heard from seasoned WOD member, Pink Star Design, who brought in some amazingly creative invitation samples.

We also had a very special guest, Dina, Owner/Publisher San Diego Style Weddings, attend, and she spoke to the group about special incentives for advertising for the upcoming season.

It was a wonderful afternoon, as usual, and a great opportunity to welcome our new members and network with our old!

styled inspiration :: bachelorette spa party

Who doesn’t love going to the spa?  Facials, massages, pedicures and manicures: it all is so relaxing, and a trip to your local spa is a popular choice for brides looking to treat her bridesmaids/bridal party.

Recently, two of our San Diego wedding vendors, Studio Carre’ Photographie and Pink Star Design partnered up with others in the industry to showcase design inspiration at its finest.

For this shoot, which was recently featured on the Exquisite Weddings|Bridal Suite blog, no detail was left unturned.  Perfectly decorated treats, intricate detail invitation design, and a glamorous salon all contributed to the perfect backdrop for this styled shoot.

There are so many ways to celebrate with your girlfriends before the wedding, and while the typical bar-hoping bachelorette party is still an option, sometimes keeping it low-key is best for some brides.  The Bachelorette Spa Party styled shoot gives you an idea of one way in which to pamper those closest to you.

When you combine pampering with sweets and the company of those closest to you, that day can be just what the doctor ordered!

:: style + inspiration at the US Grant’s ‘swoon 4’ bridal show

Spring is a season of new beginnings.  It’a a time when people begin to get out more, and enjoy the outdoors. Well, for those in the wedding industry (and for those getting married), spring is the unofficial start of wedding planning season!

At the beginning of March, the US Grant hotel hosted its annual “Swoon 4 Bridal Event“, and in true fashion, they truly outdid themselves.  Many of Weddings of Distinction’s vendors (the US Grant included) took part in this special day, and in doing so, claimed themselves among the finest San Diego wedding vendors.

The day-long bridal event spanned three floors and three ballrooms with loads of inspiration for couples.  Whether one is getting married in the fall, or in the winter, the event had special rooms dedicated to inspire the fall or winter brides!  Whites and silvers adorned the “Winter” room; vibrant colors and outdoorsy furniture decorated the “Spring/Summer” room.  There was a room specifically for groom’s, and there were others for the brides and even the ceremony itself!  Food and drink was plentiful, so couples were able to enjoy specialty cuisine from local San Diego wedding caterers.  Also, thanks to the donations from local wedding boutiques, brides were able to visualize different bridal looks during the fashion show finale!

There was so much to see and touch and experience; no stone was left unturned.   One could have spent the entire afternoon, and many did just that!

So, if you’re getting married in San Diego, there are many reputable San Diego wedding vendors to choose from.  Weddings of Distinction is likely to have many of the as a part of our group!

news + press :: “spooktacular” october meeting

October Meeting - WOD

Photos Courtesy of Studio Carre’ Photographie

Weddings of Distinction‘s October meeting was non-traditional, and in the spirit of Halloween, we would not have had it any other way.  With the help of San Diego Events Lighting, the studios of Hartworks Floral Design + Pink Star Design were transformed into a dark, yet vibrant space for a casual networking party.  Complete with fluttering bats on the wall, a spooky-faced tree, and a plethora of candy/treats that would make a dentist mad, October’s WOD meeting put the fun into this function.

The French Gourmet provided delicious comfort food, ranging from fall soups, to nachos and cheese, and the collection of local wine and champagne kept the mood light.  Many vendors came in costume, and if you are Jenn from Pink Star Design, you came in your child’s!  Bag-lady, Batman, Cat-woman, 50’s woman, Maurice from Betwixt Studio: all the costumes were great!

Special thanks to ABI Photography for providing the photo-booth!  Everyone in attendance had the chance to play with props and be goofy for the camera!  It was a perfect addition to the Halloween festivities!

real weddings :: madeline + john

Wedding themes come in all forms, and for this real wedding, the couple got very creative.  Madeline + John wanted a travel-themed wedding celebration, and they knew that right from the start.  For their engagement photo shoot, for example,  the couple used props like vintage luggage and an awesome airstrip.  Their “Save the Date” cards, designed by WOD member, Pink Star Design, (pictured above) were cleverly designed like an airline ticket.  Then on their wedding day, they had maps and travel tickets designed.  This couple took their passion for travel to the next level!

Their ceremony took place at Mary, Star of the Sea, and the reception followed at the Rancho Bernardo Inn.  The reception location only added to the elements of vintage chic travel.  Concepts Event Design, another WOD member, did an amazing job detailing the space with decor to reflect the bride and groom’s unique taste.   Touches of eggplant and lime created a beautiful day for the bride and groom.

Special details:  Instead of traditional escort cards, Madeline + John used succulents in mini pots, with cards placed on a stick, to tell the guests where to sit.  At the table, guests were reminded of the travel theme with map design details on the menus as well as on the table numbers.

The bride searched websites like etsy and Pinterest for these small, yet significant details.  The idea for the “Mr.” and “Mrs.” signs, which hung from the couple’s chairs, came from one of these sites!  When all was said and done, the combination of the details, together with Madeline + John’s unique theme made this wedding a trip to remember!

news :: february’s meeting at the bristol hotel

Photos courtesy of Betwixt Studio

The Bristol Hotel in downtown San Diego opened its doors (and roof) to Weddings of Distinction for our February luncheon/meeting.  Kudos to Meredith Bell from H Events & Ashley Cecaci from The Bristol‘s Catering Dept. for hosting us. Chef Travis Flood dazzled us with delicious tray passed hors d’oeurves, wine, iced tea an awesome entree choice between grilled salmon with crushed baby potatoes, green beans, toasted almonds & herb creme fresh and grilled skirt steak with yukon potato-corn roast, avocado, pico de gallo & chipotle aioli. Hats off, too, to House of Stemms for their decor.

Our President ~ Ann Strobel, led a spirited icebreaker where too much personal info was probably shared (lol) but laughs were had by all. Jenn Ragusa, from Pink Star Design, displayed a gorgeous table of her invitation and social invite offerings. It was great to hear her tale of her background & her dedication to her craft. We’re proud to have her as a distinctive member of the group!!

Much networking and bonding was had by all. When you are referred to a member of Weddings of Distinction, you are assured a quality, reputable, experienced professional who will not only meet, but exceed your expectations for your special event.
