We kicked off 2013 in grand style, and for January’s Wedding of Distinction meeting, our fabulous vendors congregated to the La Valencia Hotel in beautiful La Jolla Village.  La Valencia is one of the newest members to join our select group, so this meeting was a great opportunity for all of us to see just what this beautiful hotel offers guests and couple getting married.

It may have been a work day, but we started the morning with mimosas outside on the Garden.  While waiting for lunch to be served, we had breathtaking views of the ocean.  Then, when lunch was served, we were all treated to a delicious family-style, 3-course meal created by Executive Chef Paul McCabe made up of striped bass and gnocchi with seasonal vegetables.

During and after the meal, we had the chance to “meet” our new Board members, listen to updates, and share ideas for the coming year.  We also heard from the staff of the La Valencia about exciting things coming up for the historical hotel!  The afternoon ended with prizes of fruit tarts, truffles, and flowers.

It was a great time to enjoy the company of friends, new and old, and get excited about another year of great weddings and events.

Special thanks to: Lois Mathews Design for the centerpieces; Concepts Event Design for the linens and tables + chairs, and of course to the staff La Valencia Hotel for the hospitality.

a wedding is just one kind of party

The holiday season is in full swing, and as November draws to a close and December rapidly approaches, many people start thinking party celebrations and holiday shindigs.  Why not?  The six weeks from Thanksgiving to New Years are a joyous time, and joyous times should be celebrated!

Weddings of Distinction is group made up of amazing vendors.  Yes, as the name of our group suggests, we all may focus on weddings, but that does not mean the services of a DJ, a florist, a photographer, etc. could not be used for other occasions.  After all, aren’t weddings just one kind of party?   We love parties!   So whether you’re getting married, or you want to add a special touch to a holiday get-together of your closest friends, one or more of the Weddings of Distinction vendors could help turn your ideas into a reality!

Want festive invitations? ………. We’ve got vendors for that!

Need family holiday photos? Or, want a sexy gift for your special someone? ………. We’ve got photographers for that!

Want a top-rated holiday party venue, as rated by Cvent? ………. The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is ready for action!

Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.

I think you see the point.  Together, we make up Weddings of Distinction, but at the end of the day, the group is made up of individual companies that offer amazing work and/or services, both in the wedding industry and BEYOND!

Weddings of Distinction paid a visit to fellow member Continental Catering‘s facility in La Mesa for the most recent WoD meeting/luncheon. Decor, service, food, beverage… they rocked it! Kristie Emmons & company took great care of us. Their kitchen remodel is fantastic. Officiant Patricia Coleman showcased and shared some of her talents and stories with us, as well. Many guest wedding vendors attended to check out our offerings as one of San Diego’s oldest & most successful wedding networking groups (17 years). Welcome to our newest members ~ Darla Mercer and Humphrey’s on the Bay and the collection of The US Grant, Westin Gaslamp Quarter & W San Diego, represented by Kimberley Winninger. Good networking was had by all!

news + press :: april’s meeting at the prado

The Prado at Balboa Park was our location for April’s all-industry networking event…and it was a hit! This month we opened the doors to everyone to have lunch and all around great networking. Live entertainment was provided by arguably one of the more versatile and talented bands on the West Coast ~ Sensation Show Band with their array of music from 80’s pop, jazz, rock, and disco…which kept the crowd lively and chatty. This was our first open door meet & greet and we were excited about the turn out and hope to do it again! Kudos to all of the members who worked hard to put this huge event together. Thank you to all of the fabulous area industry peeps for turning out.

real weddings:: elisabeth + brad

Brad and Elisabeth met on E-Harmony in 2007 and felt an immediate connection!  Their wedding at the Powerhouse in Del Mar showed off the gorgeous Pacific Ocean to the many out of town friends and family who joined them from New York and Washington.

Here is part of their beautiful story from Elisabeth:

“Brad proposed on the night before a big trip to Italy (he was going to do it in Italy but was nervous about carrying the ring around).  I was completely surprised, and it made an already romantic trip to Italy feel like a honeymoon!  I am from Syracuse, New York and Brad is from Tacoma, Washington, so San Diego really felt like a vacation wedding to our guests.  All of our vendors did such a great job and EVERYTHING was perfect – including an amazing sunset over the Pacific.  I can honestly say that our wedding was the best day of my life.  We are now so excited to be married and feel closer than ever.  It’s amazing to know that we each get to spend our future with our best friend.”

Some of the fine Weddings of Distinction members shared in this gorgeous day: Studio Carre’ Photographie took some fantastic photos, seen here – all shot by Shannon Henry. Concepts Event Design created an indoor oceanic landscape with beautiful silk linens in shades of aqua and teal.  Sweet Cheeks Baking Company created an ocean-inspired cake of this delicious combination:  blackout chocolate cake filled with peanut butter mousse and Belgian chocolate whipped cream, tiered with red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, all frosted with Italian Butter Cream under the final layer of fondant, sugar bubbles, and white chocolate shells.

member spotlight :: plush lounge furniture rental

David Wright Plush Lounge furniture rental

Plush Lounge furniture rental provides a chic seating environment for the infamous ‘grey area’ between the wedding reception dance floor and traditional round table formal seating for weddings and other events. Today’s weddings have shifted towards a more modern look with a nightclub style reception to bring guests together, in comparison to more formal dining layouts that isolated family from friends unless they were on the dance floor. Plush Lounge offers luxury, high quality seating to help transform wedding receptions and any event by providing intimate socializing away from the dinner table and closer to the center of the event. Lounge furniture helps provide the ideal seating environment for elderly guests to be involved in the action of the event, and also serve as a resting area for those adamant to dance every possible tune played. Plush Lounge, a full service company, includes design assistance to both event and wedding coordinators and clients to help provide experienced consultation for what furniture might work best for the reception part of the event. Plush Lounge firmly believes that their outstanding customer service in conjunction with their custom furniture pieces will provide a wedding décor and seating environment that will enhance any wedding, big or small!
