news + press :: april meeting at the kona kai resort

What a beautiful day, in a beautiful resort, all in America’s Finest City.  For April’s Wedding of Distinction luncheon we visited the newly remodeled Kona Kai Resort, a beachfront property boasting not only a private marina and beach, but also views of San Diego’s city skyline.

Our networking luncheon was served outside, in one of the Resort’s open spaces just by the marina and pool.  The day was hot, but it was so nice to be outside, in the sun, getting our Vitamin D.   We were all blown away with the level of class and sophistication of the Resort’s decor, and the reason being that it was only recent that the hotel has recently undergone a major overhaul and renovation.  Before we actually sat to lunch, we got a tour of the grounds, inside and out, so we were really able to gather the extensive level of renovation.  It is such a beautiful transformation!

During our meal, we heard from Lois Mathews, of Lois Mathews Design, wedding florist extraordinaire.  She told us of her start with wedding flowers, and interestingly, she stumbled into her special niche.  We also heard from Carmin Cermak, known in our group as a wedding coordinator, but what many do not know is that Carmin also has experience designing wedding flowers and arrangements.  It was not until her speech that many in the group learned that part of her business!

All in all, the day was perfect.  The meal was delicious. And the company was enjoyable.  It was great to see just how much this resort has transformed, and with it, the grounds have become the perfect: modern, yet beachy…truly perfect for any San Diego wedding!

news + press :: start to 2016 at the manchester grand hyatt

When you’re in a group as special as Weddings of Distinction, there is no better way to start off a new year than with a networking meeting, and when its at the Top of the Hyatt at the Manchester Grand in downtown San Diego, there is no classier and more beautiful way to kick off a new year!

With stunning panoramic views of the bay and of downtown San Diego, the Top of the Hyatt in the Manchester Grand is one of our more urban wedding locations in the group.  The location boasts the label as the tallest waterfront hotel on the West Coast, and as such, offers guests a truly unique and special view of America’s Finest City.

We dined on a four-course meal, which started with appetizers and drinks (on the patio and inside), and ended with a custom dessert made by the Hyatt’s world-renowned chef.  We heard from the Hyatt about the packages they offer couples getting married, locations, and more.  We also heard from the newest rep from Sensational Treats, Sheri Kapinski.

The afternoon was cheerful, informative, and as always, it was great to reconnect with colleagues. February’s meeting will take place at the Bali Hai Restaurant.  Stay tuned!

news + press :: july’s networking meeting at l’auberge del mar

It was a hot day in Del Mar, but when you’re dining at the amazing L’auberge Hotel, somehow you “forget where you are!”

For July’s networking luncheon, we traveled to this amazing resort, located on the beach in historic Del Mar.  The hotel is well-known as one of the most elegant wedding venues in San Diego, and after dining and touring the property, we understand why.

The meals, (we had a choice of three), were made-to-order, so needless to say, we all felt pretty special.  But when you go to L’auberge, is there any other way to feel?

We heard this meeting from one of our newer wedding coordinators, Coastyle Events, and the ladies gave us insight into their relatively young but highly accomplished business.  The two owners really do compliment one another very nice!

It may have been oppressively hot, we were under the shade on this hotel’s amazing property/  Great food; good networking, and informative presentations!
